What are Prorated Charges?
Prorated charges mean you pay for a portion of our service, which you've used for a partial time in the previous billing period. This is especially relevant when you begin using Shiftbase or upgrade your plan during your active billing period.
It is a way to calculate costs based on the actual amount of licenses you have used in Shiftbase for a specific billing period.
Monthly invoicing:
If you choose monthly billing, here's what happens:
- Every month, you pay for the number of employees registered in addition to the new employees added in the previous month. These added employees are billed based on the number of days they were active for in the last month
- If you decrease the number of employees, the change takes effect next month.
- If you make a downgrade in your Plan from (Premium to Basic or Free) during the month, the changes will be applied at the end of the term.
- If you upgrade during the month, the changes take effect immediately and are charged prorated.
👀 Example:
You started using Shiftbase Premium 14 day trial on February 1st with 15 employees. And activate your subscription by adding your payment method. Your remaining trial period stays in place.
- On the 15th February an invoice is sent by Shiftbase for 15 employees.
- On the 17th February you add 5 more employees which makes a total of 20 Users in the account.
- On the 15th of March an invoice is sent for 20 active employees. Shiftbase adds a fee for the extra employees added on February 17th to your invoice
- The last month added 5 employees are now calculated as Prorated Charges (17-Feb - 15-Mar : 20,95€
Yearly invoicing
If you choose annual billing, here's what happens:
- Your first invoice is for the entire year based on the number of employees in the account. If additional employees are added, we calculate the remaining period of your contract term for these employees. All changes are grouped together on a monthly basis, so that you only receive an invoice once a month.
- If you decrease the number of employees, the change takes effect on the start of your next term.
- If you change your plan from Premium to Basic or Free(downgrade), the changes will be applied at the end of your term.
- If you change your plan from Free to Basic or Premium(upgrade) during the year, the changes take effect immediately and the additional fees are billed based on the date of the change of plan (prorated charges).
