Insights

In this article you can find out how to get started with the Insights page and how it connects to Insights+.

Basic_Premium Plan

The Insights page is your central dashboard for tracking performance metrics across your business. Whether you run a restaurant, retail store, or service location, it gives you a quick way to understand how different teams and departments are doing.

This page replaces what used to be known as the Diary. While you can still write notes and log daily events like before, you now also get real-time business data in the same view.

The Insights page is available on both web and mobile, ensuring you can access your performance data anytime, anywhere.

Basic Standard Insights Turnover, Expenses, Diary
Premium / Enterprise Insights+ (Beta) Turnover, Expenses, Diary + KPI cards (Productivity, Labour Cost %, Average Hourly Wage)

Using the standard Insights Page

If you're on the Basic plan, the Insights page shows:

  • Turnover (per team & department)

  • Expenses (labour costs per team & department)

  • Diary (for logging events, notes, and operational context)

This gives you a basic breakdown of which departments are generating sales and incurring labour costs.

How turnover works per department:

Turnover is split across departments based on scheduled hours. For example, if a restaurant's front-of-house, kitchen, and dishwashing teams all worked on the same day, turnover is distributed proportionally across those teams based on their worked hours.

This doesn't mean that kitchen porters are directly generating revenue, but that their time contributed to the day's service. The system allocates turnover in a way that reflects the labour mix that delivered the result.

Insights+ also shows the KPI’s in the teams and departments table, not only in the KPI cards. This is how you can see the data from the KPI cards broken down into more detailed parts. Think of this as a way to zoom into the data if you see something worth your attention in the KPI cards. This can be from multi department level to single department level to team level as a flow.

The Diary still works just like it did before. Use it to:

  • Note down key events (e.g. “Busy lunch rush”, “Machine broke”)

  • Log team issues (e.g. “2 no-shows in kitchen”)

  • Share context for why a day’s performance was high or low

What is Insights+?

Insights+ is an extended version of the Insights page, currently in Beta. It’s available for users on Premium and Enterprise plans.

When activated (by setting your targets), Insights+ shows:

  • Productivity (turnover per hour worked)

  • Labour Cost % (labour cost as % of turnover)

  • Average Hourly Wage (calculated based on actuals)

These KPIs give you a clearer view of team efficiency, profitability, and cost control.

You can view:

  • KPI changes over time (Day, Week, Month toggle)

  • Actual vs. Target (click into a KPI for a breakdown of the average hourly wage)

How to activate Insights+

  1. Go to the Insights page.
  2. Click Set Targets in the banner.
  3. Set your KPI targets to unlock Insights+.

For Insights+ to work properly, you should definitely:

  • Set up wages for all employees (either manually or through an integration)

  • Enter your turnover — either manually or automatically via a POS integration on the Insights page

💡Tip: If you should've closed the banner, you can update your targets in the Settings > Organization.

Once active, Insights+ helps you:

  • Spot cost issues early (e.g. wage costs are too high today)

  • Monitor trends across departments

  • See which team is over- or under-performing

Information for Beginners

  • Start with the Day view. It’s the clearest snapshot of what’s happening now.

  • Use the Diary every day to add context — it’s your memory bank.

  • Check Productivity to see if your team is working efficiently.

  • Look at Labour Cost % to ensure staffing stays profitable.

KPI Cards

These are the four key numbers you'll see at the top of the Insights+ page:

  • Turnover: How much revenue your team brought in that day.

  • Productivity: How much revenue was made for every hour worked.

  • Labour Cost %: What percentage of that revenue was spent on wages.

  • Average Hourly Wage: The average wage paid across your scheduled team.

These KPIs update automatically using your real data — no extra steps needed.

Data Sources

Wondering where the numbers come from? Insights pulls in:

  • Worked hours (from approved and pending timesheets)

  • Salary costs (what you pay your staff)

  • Turnover (revenue, entered manually or through your integration)

If some of this data is missing, the KPI card might show a dash ("–") until it’s filled in.

Display Notes

Some helpful tips when reading the data:

  • If turnover is 0, it’ll show as “0” — not missing

  • If a timesheet stretches over two days, the wage is shown on day one

  • Every number updates automatically — no manual input needed once your data is flowing

Average Hourly Wage: Detail Graph

Click into the Average Hourly Wage card to see a breakdown over time. This helps you track how wages shift day-to-day  — a quick way to spot cost trends.

Diary

The Diary hasn’t changed — but now it’s even more powerful. Use it to explain the numbers:

  • “Machine broke during lunch rush”

  • “Staff called in sick”

  • “High foot traffic due to festival”

These notes sit side-by-side with your KPIs, so you can always connect performance to real-world events.

Reporting

Want to zoom out? The Reporting section includes an Insights category where you can:

  • View performance across longer timeframes

  • Filter by department

  • Compare days or weeks

Great for spotting bigger patterns or preparing for meetings.

Permissions & Restrictions

Not everyone sees the same thing:

  • View Insights: Lets someone see all KPI and Diary info

  • Edit Insights: Needed to change anything — like adding Diary notes or updating turnover/expenses

If you can’t see something, you might need to ask your admin for access.
