Opening reports after Microsoft Excel security update

This article applies to users of the following Microsoft Excel versions:

  • Microsoft Excel 2010

  • Microsoft Excel 2013

  • Microsoft Excel 2016

Since a recent security update for Microsoft Excel, the contents of Excel files that you download from the Internet are automatically blocked. As a result, your downloaded report does not seem contain any content.

To view your reports, you can do one of the two following things:

  • You can manually disable this block for one specific excel file. This must be done, if you leave the block enabled by default.

  • You can disable the entire blockade for all downloaded Excel files.

Disabling blockage for one specific excel file

  • Go to the folder on your computer where the Excel file is located.

  • Right-click the Excel file and choose the Properties option.

  • Select the Unblock option at the bottom, then click apply and then ok.

  • You can now open the file with Microsoft Excel and view the contents of the file.

Unblock external content.

Disabling the blockage for all Excel files of external origin

  • Open Microsoft Excel and go to File at the top left, then choose Options.

  • Go to the Trust Center tab and right-click Trust Center Settings.

  • In the just opened Trust Center window, select the Secure View tab on the left.

  • Check the box Enable secure view for files originating from the Internet then click Ok.

  • Then click Ok again.
